The difference in Alien and Predator-storywise?

Both films have the seven humans being stalked by a deadly alien adversary. However, in terms of believability, do you feel that the situation and outcome in Alien made more sense than in Predator? What I'm saying is, the seven men were all heavily-armed, highly trained military people who had the means and opportunity more than once to destroy the Predator?
