Why do so called Christians follow Trinianity and Pauliantiy instead of genuine Christianity?

Why have they let Paul, who wrote almost half of the new testement, dictate what Christians should believe. Isn't this the same dude that whacked 3,000 Christians and claimed to have seen Jesus on the road to Damascus when there were no other witnesses around?
