Has anybody every sheared or clipped a rabbit?

I have a rabbit that I rescued. So, never realizing how problematic his coat was going to be, he now has this HUMONGOUS mat. I'm pretty sure he's a Jersey Wooly or maybe a mix. He's definitely over 3.5 lbs, but he has the same features and the same type of coat!!!!! He's definitely not an Angora rabbit. In order to start grooming him properly and regularly, I will have to shear his coat pretty short. Not sure what kind of clippers to get. Or should I just have the Vet clip him for me?
