When you use "yaa bunay-ya" in Arabic what does it mean, and is it special?

Does it mean "oh my son" or "oh dear my son" (like how "dear" is used in English to reinforce politeness or affection). And is "yaa bunay-ya" a special way of calling to a son that is better than using similar other words that may not sound special and significant.
